MSN 500 – Advanced Nursing Roles

The deployment of advanced nursing roles successfully is explored in this course. A basis for choosing an individual advanced role specialty and an individual career development plan is provided by analysis of current and emerging roles. The articulation of concerns unique to the advanced nursing position in practice, administration, education, and informatics will receive special attention.

MSN 505 – Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing

This course examines the development of ideas from the fields of nursing, social science, education, and behavioral science as well as how these theories have impacted the care of people, families, and the community. For use in executive, educational, and practice leadership, the usefulness of conceptual models is investigated.

MSN 510 – Scientific and Analytical Approaches

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the research process, enabling students to appraise and synthesize existing scientific research, practice guidelines, and other scholarly evidence using analytic methods. The emphasis of this course is on research design, research methods, project implementation, data analysis techniques, and the evaluation of a nursing practice change based on the highest quality evidence.

MSN 515 – Community Nursing

Using principles, ideas, and concepts, this course teaches students about the duties and functions of community health nurses. Topics covered include therapeutic communication, group process theory, and its implementation in practice. Nursing processes and nursing responsibilities are emphasized to promote system stability and maximum functional status of people across the lifetime, families, groups, aggregates, and communities.

MSN 599 – Advanced Nursing Administration and Leadership Practicum

This practicum course offers students the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in the essential aspects of the Nurse Administrator job and to apply the advanced practice role in a range of professional practice settings. During a culminating project and experience, students will incorporate standards of professional nursing performance, ethical, legal, and regulatory compliance into practice.
